Keralan Chicken Soup - THUMBS UP

Now,

yes... you might think why is she reviewing a "Soup" which is no less than Waitrose own brand... the answer.. IT IS HEAVEN in a bowl..

Being a fence sitter on soup in general.. not exactly going to cry when being served soup for dinner, I am also not going to start salivating and banging my cutlery n the kitchen table either.. BUT .. this soup, THIS SOUP deserves a standing ovation..

Keralan Chicken Soup - Waitrose... .

A warmly spiced soup of coconut, British chicken, and green beans with a mix of Keralan inspired spiced and chilli- served with a crusty bread and butter.. Extremely fulling and tasty..

Ambience – Leopold Road – Wimbledon – SW19

Website:                              http://www.ambiencerestaurant.co.uk/menu.html ( they even have a blog!”)

Their catch phrase:          One of Wimbledon' most unique restaurants ,cocktail bars and Shisha Lounge, Ambience Restaurant and cocktail bar has an amazing list of creative cocktails, great freshly cooked food and a vibrant "ambience" to help you enjoy your evening”

Table:                                    For 2- mid-week – (19:30)

Cuizine:                                Turkish ( Mediterranean )

The only ones in the restaurant (at first).. The Décor is clean, dark wood with tasteful ( quite pretty ) mosaic hanging light fixtures… just enough to give it that Mediterranean feel…

Drinks

We went for cocktails”. Of course Ambience offers a cocktail bar adjacent to the restaurant as well as a shish lounge should you prefer not to eat but chill… And we are not the type to let a good cocktail let us down!

tasty
Cj:      Posh Margarita- only the finest of ingredients. It was crisp, tangy and posh ;)…
Roo:  Flamingo Gin Sling – chosen for its Sloe Gin ingredient..of course... delightful..

Food:

Bread and Olives.. standard – tasty.. just enough to get the taste buds tingling. Or inour case.. devoured in less than 1 minute as starving! Ha ha ha
Starters:
We ordered 3 ( coz we love ourselves a starter…or 3)

Prawn with Avocado-
Marinated Ocean Prawns with pepper and parsley on top….

To be honest, this isn’t what I was expecting.. :\ .. it was more like a seafood cocktail with not that much flavour plopped on the plate….. definitely the least favourite of the 3. Didn’t quite finish it..

Borek
Fried filo pastry filled with feta chesse parsley and dill

WIN WIN WIN WIN, R appropriately put it that if we ordered a massive plate full of these delicious bad boys we would just sit and eat them till we couldn’t fit in any more…. they are D I - vine.. The crispy filo pasty crunch with the ooooze of declicious cheese in the middle makes them high on my favourite starter ever list ( no joke )

Icli Kofte
Cracked wheat filled with mince lamb, pine kernels and herbs deep fried…

R has had these before and so was sold, the taste was improved by the salsa looking hot sauce and garlic mayonaise we were given on the side.. They were pretty tasty indeed….

Mains:

R-Sheftali kebab

Sorry bad photo!

Traditional Cypriot speciality made with minced lamb, chopped onion and spices wrapped in lamb fat.. …..( comes served with white rice and side salad)

Cj –
Ambience Mixed Grill –
Charcoal grilled, lamb shish, chicken wings, lamb kofte, chicken kofte, sheftali kebab and chicken shish…..( comes served with white rice and side salad)

COST:

Subtotal : £57.20
+ Service Charge - £5.42 ( 10%)

Discount!- Taste London- 50% off the food bill………… ;)

= £37.97

Recommend – Most definitely…Overall it was a pleasant evening and a tasty meal…. We both left feeling a little over full but quite satisfied at the same time.. and I even managed to leave a bit of food on the plate, of course it was the rice! Ha ha ha ha…. Good value – nice peaceful restaurant and on the taste card.. You can’t beat the price either! The staff were polite and willing to help.. albeit on some occasion a little too willing but we put that down to being the only ones in the restaurant for the first half of our meal….

*Might nip back for a cocktail or 6 in the upcoming weeks
